Professor Paul Tipton

Specialist in Prosthodontics

Professor Paul Tipton is an internationally acclaimed Prosthodontist who has worked in private practice for more than 30 years. He is the founder of Tipton Training Ltd, one of the UK’s leading private dental training academies and the author of over one 100 scientific articles for the dental press. He was voted in the Top 10 ‘most influential dentists in the UK’ by his peers in Dentistry Magazine in April 2010 and was the leading Prosthodontist in the poll.

Professor Tipton’s career started in 1978 when he qualified from Sheffield University. His passion for dentistry led him to undertake further private training with the leading dentists of the time, prior to opening his own referral practice in Manchester. He continued to build his skills and reputation, studying at London’s prestigious Eastman Dental Hospital, where he obtained a Masters Degree in Conservative dentistry in 1989.

In 1992, Professor Tipton was awarded an honorary Diploma in General Dental Practice from the Royal College of Surgeons of England and was appointed a member of the British Dental Association’s Independent Practice Committee. In 1999, he was certified as a Specialist in Prosthodontics by the General Dental Council.

Professor Tipton’s teaching career began at Manchester University in 1989 where he taught on its MSc. Now he regularly lectures at home and abroad. To date, over 2500 dentists have passed through the Tipton Training Academy. He has recently established an on-line Training Academy for Dentists which allows remote access to study groups.

He is on the editorial board of Private Dentistry Magazine and Restorative & Aesthetic Practice. He was a founding member and on the Board of Directors of the British Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry and the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. He is currently the President of the British Academy of Restorative Dentistry.
